The fans waited in long lines as the clock is ticking until the official release date of each new book … many times at midnight! Special security measures have been taken to ensure that more books were sold before the actual date. Book store owners had to sign legal documents to ensure that not even open boxes before that date.

Numerous conventions, seminars and conferences have sprung up around the world. People could not and apparently still can not get enough of Harry and his clan. These meetings with relevant speakers, books and discussions of movies, games and costumes. More recently (May 2007), was a conference in New Orleans – Phoenix Rising held May 17 to 21.

The right-wing conservatives argue the premise of the series is designed to promote the generation youngest to the dark side glorify witchcraft. Personally, I think Bewitched. But if you're really concerned that a work of pure fantasy to convince his child can turn the 6th grade math teacher in the voice of the sticky bit for the next Geico, then learn calculus and help your child with the task! On a side note – I have nothing against the Geico lizard, I think using cute little animals to sell insurance is brilliant.

For those of you deal with separation anxiety by the departure of Harry and his gang, fear not! Although Rowling has decided to pull the teen wizard, who has no intention of writing an encyclopedia, an epilogue, which include detailed reference of the narrative, what happens after Deathly Hallows and reveals that you step into the position Director of Hogwarts.

Anyone female had the fibroptic cystoscope test at the urologist?

Has anyone had this test ran? I had it done with a rigid scope years ago and it hurt like hell. I need it done again but this dr. has a fibro-optic scope which they say is better. I am really not wanting to do this and have great anxiety after my last ordeal. Any good stories or horror stoires to share?

sorry, no good stories to tell you. but i’m sure with the fibro-optic scope, it won’t be anything like what you had done years ago. it’s amazing the new technology that comes along each year……you’ll be fine & i’m sure pain free.

How can I desensitize myself to anxiety?

I’ve had my share of anxiety, most notably when I moved and at the same time came to a big high school, freshman year… some things that I used to do back then remind me of that time, and I feel the anxiety still. It’s almost overwhelming sometimes… how can I desensitize myself?
(Things include: some music, video games, web sites, etc.)

i like to get out and do things like go shopping or get yourself a job listen to music watch good movies……….ect and i like to take hot baths it always relaxes me so much, and your right no god d**m meds!!! and try to reduce your stress intake cuz stress is the main cause of anxiety……good luck to you!

When you compare living in the 21st century with life a few decades ago, it has definitely become much more stressful for the average person.

We start seeing more and more stress related problems as we worry about our future.

There are a couple of problems that are plaguing Americans today – most notably, the sub-prime loan crisis, the tightening of credit, escalating oil prices, inflation and materialism are driving most Americans (and people around the world) up the wall. Financial stress is prevalent and we must learn to recognize them as a serious threat to our lives.

Take for example, vitamin supplements. About 50 years ago, vitamin supplements were unheard of. People in the 21st century taking are supplements by the dozens daily but if you examine most grandparents, they never had the need for it and some of them have better health and more energy than people half their age.

We must recognize the fact that life 50 years ago is significantly different where people worked hard in the fields or got their hands dirty fixing things in contrast to today’s society where people spend long hours in their offices or in front of their computers. As a matter of fact, there weren’t much or any fast foods easily available during our grandfather’s time – they eat more healthily then we do because they probably grow their own vegetables or buys from someone who does.

The absence of balanced living is another factor. Back then, the men were the ones going to work while the women nurse their kids at home. Today, it is quite common to see both parents going to work while they dump their kids at daycare or hire a nanny to take care of them. The good old family life has been turned upside down and the divorce rate in America is shocking! It’s no wonder the whole family is stressed out!

In order to handle stress wisely, you must arm yourself to the teeth. We must stop seeking for ‘instant’ cures that are prevalent in today’s MTV/YouTube society.

The four basic areas that we must focus on are:

Nutrition: You must consume proper food, not just burgers, pizzas and junk food. We must learn to fix dishes that contains less oil, sugar, salt, MSG or high cholesterol. Going back to a healthy lifestyle may not be easy, but at least you will be spared from obesity or eating all the wrong food.

Sleep: People start sleeping at irregular hours. This is not good. If you sleep whenever you want and wake up early or anytime you feel like it, your body doesn’t release the right chemicals you need to give you a good rest. One of the biggest stress factors come arise from a lack of good sleeping habits.

Exercise: You must never neglect your exercises. A lot of women don’t like to exercise and they think they can lose weight by starving themselves. If you want to lose weight, you must limit your intake AND control how it ‘comes out’ as well.

Mental or spiritual health: Never forget that stress attacks the mind first. Don’t give in to it otherwise; your physical health will suffer. Most of our illnesses are all in the mind and if you develop your inner life wholeheartedly, you will be able to defeat stress easily.

Where do I start when my anger/anxiety issues are affecting my health and relationship?

I have always had anger/anxiety issues, but recently, I have come to a point where I can no longer deal with them on my own. A friend suggested starting with a general practitioner, as I am having health issues stemming from my anger/anxiety, such as headaches, weight gain, and stomach trouble. Is this the best place to start? I’ve made an appointment for this coming Monday. What should I tell this doctor?

When to seek medical advice
Feeling shy at parties or nervous about giving a speech doesn’t necessarily mean you have social anxiety disorder. If your fears or anxieties don’t really bother you, you may not need treatment. For instance, you may not like making speeches but you do so anyway without being overwhelmed by anxiety.
What sets social anxiety disorder apart from everyday nervousness is that its symptoms are much more severe and last much longer. Social anxiety disorder disrupts your life, causes you distress and affects your daily activities.
Common, everyday experiences that may be difficult to endure when you have social anxiety disorder include:
?Using a public restroom or telephone
?Returning items to a store
?Interacting with strangers
?Writing in front of others
?Making eye contact
?Entering a room in which people are already seated
?Ordering food in a restaurant
?Being introduced to strangers
?Initiating conversations
Social anxiety disorder symptoms can change over time. They may flare up if you’re facing a lot of stress or demands. Or if you completely avoid situations that would usually make you anxious, you may not have symptoms. Although avoidance may allow you to feel better in the short term, your anxiety is likely to persist over the long term if you don’t get treatment.
Tests and diagnosis
When you decide to seek treatment for symptoms of possible social anxiety disorder, you may have both a physical and psychological evaluation. The physical exam can determine if there may be any physical causes triggering your symptoms.
There’s no laboratory test to diagnose social anxiety disorder, however. Your doctor or mental health provider will ask you to describe your signs and symptoms, how often they occur and in what situations. He or she may review a list of situations to see if they make you anxious or have you fill out psychological questionnaires or self-assessments to help pinpoint a diagnosis.
To be diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, someone must meet criteria spelled out in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This manual is published by the American Psychiatric Association and is used by mental health professionals to diagnose mental conditions and by insurance companies to reimburse for treatment.
Criteria for social anxiety disorder to be diagnosed include:
?A persistent fear of social situations in which you believe you may be scrutinized or act in a way that’s embarrassing or humiliating
?These social situations cause you a great deal of anxiety
?You recognize your anxiety level is excessive or out of proportion for the situation
?You avoid anxiety-producing social situations
?Your anxiety or distress interfere with your daily living

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this herb called “St John’s Wort” – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
If you’re unable to take St John’s Wort, you can substitute it with Siberian Ginseng or Licorice Herb.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!

Facial tics are characterized by rapid, apparently involuntary muscle contractions of entire muscle groups in the face and neck region. These contractions are often repetitive in nature, and appear to have no valid purpose. Common tics are exaggerated eye blinking, squinting, nose wrinkling, facial grimacing or even vocalizations such as throat clearing or grunting. Tics often show themselves during childhood, and usually resolve as a child ages. This is not always the situation, though, and many people continue to exhibit tics as they enter adulthood.

Tics often increase in frequency as a sufferer feels anxiety or discomfort. People who suffer from tics report they are able to feel a tic approach. It’s often described as an overwhelming feeling of tension and the desire to perform the tic to break the tension; somewhat akin to the approaching urge to yawn or sneeze which relieves the victim. Controlling a tic can cause anxiety, which can lead to the beginning of another tic. Tics are often described as being uncontrolled but research and reports from sufferers indicates they are indeed voluntary motions that can be controlled by the victim.

A tic can manifest itself as a simple tic, as in facial grimaces, mouth twitches or grunting or it can be more complex such as is seen a lot in Tourette syndrome. Simple tics are more commonly seen than complex tics, but can be just as devastating to the sufferer; while a facial tic does not cause physical pain to the victim, it often triggers social problems or mental distress.

Children, in particular, can have a hard time dealing with a tic because of mocking from other children, or teachers who don’t fully recognize the hard situation the child is in. While tics are often described as not being totally involuntary, control of a tic can be quite difficult to establish, especially for children. Children often do not establish the skills to identify a starting tic as well as an adult.

Adults can also face grave problems in their lives when dealing with a facial tic. Social problems are commonly experienced, and even when tics are generally controlled the adult can become very tired by the persistent need to identify the onset of and control the tic impulse. Adults and children alike may suffer from self-worth or self-esteem issues due to their continual suffering from a disease that often causes them to become social outcasts.

Relieving a person of the distress of a facial tic can be a life-changing experience. Self-esteem usually improves, and social anxiety is no longer a force holding a person back from experiencing a full life. In children, relieving a tic may allow the child to develop with less anxiety while he/she has a happier childhood.

Over the years, many treatments for tics have been used with varying degrees of success. Psychotherapy or counseling can help discover the emotional causes of a tic, and may help a person understand better how to fight the urge to give in to their tic. Sedatives and other forms of medication sometimes do well in cases of simple tics. These medications often come saddled with negative side effects, so many people search for alternative treatments.

Hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) methods have been developed expressly for the purpose of dealing with facial tics. Since facial tics are not firmly involuntary in nature, these treatments aim to change the sufferer’s unconscious response to the onset of a tic episode such as facial grimacing or throat clearing. In most cases this can be done by allowing the unconscious mind to avoid the tic’s onset. In some extreme cases, however, the victim’s response will be redirected to some innocuous portion of the body such as twitching a toe instead of facial muscles.

Facial tics can be an uncomfortable life-affecting trouble. Children and adults alike can suffer a lot from the occurence of a facial tic such as squinting, eye blinking, facial grimaces, mouth twitches, grunting or nose wrinkling. Eliminating a facial tic can prove very helpful to the victim on an emotional level.

Although several treatments have been developed to thwart facial tics, NLP and self-hypnosis aim to utilize natural unconscious methods of redirecting the tic response. This type of treatment has great benefit over other methods such as psychotherapy, which may not treat the tic behavior at all, or attempt to modify the conscious response to tic behavior.

This beneficial method of treatment can also diminish tension and concern in the victim’s life, thereby both reducing the impulse to form a tic and proving a benefit in everyday life.
