Can you explain the principles of existentialism?

UM professor gave us the following principles i do not know how they relate to each Another concern of the presence of the absurdity of the existence of death – without meaning to real life – do not lie to yourself how are existentialism? and if possible, could u give me a definition of existentialism?

Ok, existentialism says that virtually all we know is that we live (any). We have no way of knowing the reason (and no objective justification for believing) that something like a much bigger or organizing principle, no. All we have is what we live, which derives from our existence. This leads to the absurdity of life. With no higher principle of life, life has no objective meaning. We're here, we exist, we die, no action or choice can not change this fundamental reality in any way. All we have is our own subjective experience. A lack of choice or action with a sense of superiority, the only way to justify the progress is in line with what we are. It's true. If we think that act reasons other than our own will, we deceive ourselves and try to live in a dream world does not exist. Anxiety in the presence of death arises because we realize that all we really have is our life. However, we also recognize that death eventually, and this marks the end of our existence. The absolute end troubles us because it is so contrary to life. (For this reason, people do things like religion and beyond to try to put your mind at ease. They use moral religion as a crutch to avoid the harsh reality that we ourselves and there is nothing to prevent us from doing what you choose.)

Lastly, the most important factor is to remember that panic attack can do you no harm. This is the KEY to stopping it forever. You need to BELIEVE that panic attack cannot harm you, which is a fact, not something I made up just to comfort you.

Remind yourself of these FACTS about panic attacks:

-Panic attack CANNOT cause you to stop breathing.

-Panic attack CANNOT cause you to faint.

-Panic attack CANNOT cause you to have heart attack

-Panic attack CANNOT cause you to die.

Remind yourself that the symptoms, no matter how uncomfortable, will in time fade away even without your intervention (its true!). Learn to live with the panic attacks but NEVER give in. Accept that you have panic attack, don’t run or hide from it…and certainly don’t fear having it!

Want to treat social anxiety. EMDR therapy?

I have a mild social anxiety and feel a little bit depressed. The part of my social anxiety that is bothering the most right now is my fear of public speaking. I have full blown panic attacks when put in situations that involve public speaking and feel an enormous sense of dread leading up to the occasion. I have read a book on public speaking, tried an anti-depressant, and xanex. None of these really seem to fix the problem.
I have heard about EMDR and someone told me how fantastic it worked out for them. From what I have read is that EMDR really focuses on a very specific traumatic event or memory and then tries to desensitize you. If I have more of a general anxiety will this work for me?

EMDR has roots in exposure (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) thereapy. Research on EMDR suggests that there’s little correlation of the eye movement with resolving the traumatic event, but rather the cognitive sensitization/desensitization that occurs as one thinks/focuses on events during the rapid-eye movement.

A more generalized anxiety (specifically speaking to your public speaking) can be addressed through basic CBT therapy and exposure therapy. A competent therapist will have you work with associating thoughts with public speaking and taking ’subjective units of distress’ ratings and work from association, to visualization to in vivo all while taking SUDS. You’ll be able to graph your success.

Additionally, if you’re seeking psychpharmacological intervention – see a psychiatrist and ask about Lexapro and or a Beta blocker. Lexapro addresses mood symptoms and anxiety (as it is an SSRI that’s targeting affective and anxiety symptoms). Can a person who take anxiety meds are allowed to join the military?

My fiance takes anxiety meds and he wants to join the air force but he has no idea if they will accept the fact that he takes pills for that problem..i would like to know if anyone in the military have anxiety problems and still went to join the military.

While there are waivers for some mental illnesses under certain conditions, someone who is currently taking medications would not be likely to get one.

If he has enough anxiety that he needs medication, maybe the military wouldn’t be a wise profession. It is very stressful and can aggravate symptoms of anxiety and depression.

I am not trying to discourage you. I am trying to be honest about my answer. I am sorry if it is not the news you were looking for. I don’t want to get up false hopes.

When you ask a person what worries them, it could be something as simple as leaving their houses unlock or not being able to pay their credit card bills on time or their child’s health. An anxious person tends to exaggerate every situation and cannot help themselves but worry themselves to death. You could find them awake at 3:00 in the morning still worrying about the same things. This is anxiety and fortunately, it can be controlled without having to resort to taking prescription drugs or medications. Here are some anxiety management techniques that you can apply to your daily life:

1. Exercise
You can simply take you dog to the park or take your family to go hiking on the weekends. Jog for a mile or two. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Learn a new sport. Take up gardening. The list goes on. Whatever physical activity that you can find, do it. You can focus all that nervous energy into something more healthy and productive. Exercise can certainly reduce stress, anxiety, aggression and frustration. It is a perfect anxiety management technique.

2. Breath
Having a breath of fresh air is not only an idiomatic expression; it is also a life-saving activity. Go out of the city as much as you can and find a place with lots of trees and water. Even more important, practiced controlled breathing. Deep breathing techniques are advocated by activities like yoga and tai chi. It encourages people to breath from their abdomen. This type of breathing is actually a meditative technique because it requires you’re full and constant attention, with all your worries shoved to the back of your mind.

3. Connect
Maybe your anxiety is due to the fact that you cannot think of anything outside your family and friends. Widen your circle. Join a local charity organization or even a book or sports club. Having something for yourself alone can be a refreshing moment in life. It’s also good to find new people who share the same interests as you.

4. Organize
It could be that stress and anxiety is a result of mismanagement. Some people simply have too much to do on their hands that it becomes very difficult to remember everything. Add structure to your life. Use an organizer or a Blackberry to plot the day, week or month’s activities. Leave messages on your answering machine to make sure you don’t forget anything. Organization is a very good anxiety management technique.

Is it possible for a sleep disorder to cause anxiety and depression?

20 years old… I am having a sleep study at the end of the month and my doctor is pretty sure I have sleep Apnea, as I am tired all the time and snore really badly. But for the past 4-5 years Ive been experiencing really bad depression and anxiety. This past year has been the worse, as I moved to a new state and my anxiety has turned into what might be social anxiety. I feel nervous and paranoid around people. Always thinking they don’t like me and that they are talking bad about me. Do you think the sleep apnea could have caused this, as I’ve had this sleep problem since I was a child.

When we are deprived of sleep, it can cause many different problems. It’s good you are seeing about your sleep disorder, I think once they can solve that, you will most likely see your symptoms deminish.

Post-traumatic stress disorder also known as PTSD is a form of anxiety that can occur after the exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm happened or was threatened.

Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include:

- Survivors of devastating earthquakes
- People that witness traumatic events
- Survivors of several accidents on the sea or air
- Physical and sexual abuse or crimes
- Major changes in someone’s life
- Severe accidents car or plane accidents
- Violent personal assaults
- Natural disasters or human causes disasters (bombs)

- People affected by racism
- Military combat actions
