anxiety task manager

Like everything in life, managing your fears and anxieties takes practice. The more you do it, the better you will become. Here are a few reminders on how you can become better at dealing with your fears, depression, and anxieties.

In every anxiety-related situation you experience, begin to learn what works, what does not work, and what you need to improve on in managing your fears and anxieties. For instance, you have a lot of anxiety and you decide to take a walk to help you feel better. The next time you feel anxious you can remind yourself that you got through it the last time by taking a walk. This will give you the confidence to manage your anxiety the next time around.

Challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or anxious, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense. For example, you are afraid that if you do not get that job promotion then you will be stuck at your job forever. This depresses you, however your thinking in this situation is unrealistic. The fact of the matter is that there all are kinds of jobs available and just because you do not get this job promotion does not mean that you will never get one. In addition, people change jobs all the time, and you always have that option of going elsewhere if you are unhappy at your present location. Changing your thinking can help you manage your fears.

Sometimes, we may be nervous doing a certain task that may be scary. When this happens, visualize yourself doing the task in your mind. For instance, you and your team have to play in the championship hockey game in front of a large group of people in the next few days. Before the big day comes, imagine yourself playing the game in your mind. Imagine that your playing in front of a large audience. By playing the game in your mind, you will be better prepared to perform for real when the time comes. Self-Visualization is a great way to reduce the fear and stress of a coming situation.

When facing a current or upcoming task that overwhelms you with a lot of anxiety, divide the task into a series of smaller steps and then complete each of the smaller tasks one at a time. Completing these smaller tasks will make the stress more manageable and increases your chances of success.

Take advantage of the help that is available around you. If possible, talk to a professional who can help you manage your fears and anxieties. They will be able to provide you with additional advice and insights on how to deal with your current problem. By talking to a professional, a person will be helping themselves in the long run because they will become better able to deal with their problems in the future. Managing your fears and anxieties takes practice. The more you practice, the better you will become.

Remember that sometimes our worrying and fears can make the problem even worse. Take things in stride and try not focus too much on the problem. Patience, persistence, education, and being committed in trying to solve your problem will go along way in fixing your problems. In time, you will find the ways to overcome your phobias.

Credit card debt creates anxiety and financial chaos. It caused many people trap into serious financial issue since the introduction of credit card. This plastic card create easy and convenient payment scheme for you to buy things without the need to worry about cash inside you wallet; frequently make you over spend your money and create debt.

The situation getting worse with the best feature of credit card, the minimum monthly payment; you no need to pay in full of credit card balance each month, just pay the minimum amount will do; the credit card balance snowballing month by month, when you start to realize that you have financial issue, most probably you already at a bad debt situation. When you are in the debt trap, more efforts and times are needed to get out from there.

The last option for debt free is filing a bankruptcy but before your need to choose this option, consider this five-step program first to rid yourself of bad debt with bankruptcy.

1. The desire to get out of debt

This is the most important part of any debt free program. Lip service is not acceptable because it is going to be hard work on your part. It’s going to require lifestyle changes and breaking of bad spending habits. You must get yourself ready and have an ultimate desire to get out of debt.

2. Assessing just how much debt you have

Before you put in your actions to resolve your debt issue, you need to know how much debt you have and who you owe. The best way is list down all your debts on to a piece of paper or enters your debts into any of personal finance program you use to assist you. Then, break it down further by listing down each interest rate of each credit card you current paying of. The most current information can be found on your card statement.

3. Devise a workable plan

You need a plan that you can live with. Write it down so that you will be more committed to it. You need to stop adding more debts, stop using credit cards. And try to call your creditors and ask if they would be willing to lower their interest rate. Other actions that you can put into your plan are:

* Generate and review your cash flow worksheet so that you know where your money going to come from each month to reduce your credit card debt.

* Things that you willing to change or give up to make the goal of being debt-free happen.

* Explode a few ways to increase your monthly income to cover for your debt payment.

* Assets that you may sell off to cash out to pay for your debts.

Start out with baby steps, paying more than the minimum each month. You can either choose to pay off the card with the higher interest first or choose the one with the lowest balance so that you can eliminate that one quickly.

4. Cancel all your credit card but leave one

This may be painful living without the credit card, but look what having these cards has done to you. Get the scissor out and cut all of them except one so that you will able to use it. Then, call to the credit card companies and call all your credit cards that you have put the scissor on; this is to stop you from asking for a replacement card later.

Now, what do you do with the last card? Carrying it in your wallet makes it too easy to access and use it for impulse purchase. You should keep it in a place where it will take an effort to retrieve it. This last card will only be used for any emergency purpose.

5. Seek for professional help if you just can’t manage it on your own

If you find that you can’t manage your debts at your own, then getting help from debt managing professional should be your option. You can contact the National Foundation for Consumer Credit (NFCC). This is a national network of nonprofit organization that provide consumer education, debt counseling and debt repayment program. Their counselors can help you set up a budget and re-establish credit.

In summary

If you always trap into bad debt situation, bankruptcy filing a fastest step for debt relief but it is not the best option as the impacts will follow you for many years. Always access other alternatives to rid yourself of bad debt without bankruptcy. The above five-step program can be your guide for better option.

anxiety medicine list
How to reduce anxiety?

I’m having a surgical procedure done next week and couldn’t sleep last night. I am somewhat anxious. Do you think my doctor could prescribe an anti-anxiety medicine or sleep medicine?
There’s a list of medicine that I can’t take a week prior to surgery, but I am wondering if I can take a medicine to calm me down or help me sleep?
Thanks for the kind words!

Right before most surgical procedures, they will inject you with some form of benzodiazapene that will not only calm you down, it will also block your memory of the whole experience. Benzodiazapenes are commonly prescribed to treat many forms of anxiety disorders. Talk to your Dr and see what he thinks would help you most. Good Luck ! :)

anxiety self help
What are some ways to self- control an anxiety problem?

What are some good effective ways to self-control anxiety or worrying? Or evan paranoia. Im talking like deep breathing or just calming down methods. Help me out???

It is known that the best way to channel out any negativity is to release your negative feelings in a creative manner.

This can include writing out how you feel, drawing, dancing, etc.

Personally, I have my own journal. When I feel panic in my system, which can render me to have hyperventilation, dizziness, cold and warm spells, etc. I write out how I am feeling, and what is specifically bothering me.

Anxiety occurs when you are overly worried about something to the point of not being entirely sure what it is anymore. It becomes less of a problem when you are able to target the cause of the anxiousness.

Through creativity, you are able to see exactly what is bothering you in an artistic manner.

Specifically for anxiety however, you must realize your state of mind during the attack… Regard this simple acronym, and be sure to remember it the next time you have an attack:

S.T.A.R. – Stop, Think, Analyze, Reply.

Follow these four steps (in order) and everything should be easier to handle. I’ll explain:

When you feel you are having a panic attack, you should first stop any thoughts that rush in your mind, and hold off everything. Once you have achieved that (as this is truly the hardest part), you must think it through. “Why exactly am I worrying?” You analyze why you are worrying about the topic, i.e. draw out any phobias or past experiences you had that relate to the topic… And finally, you reply to it, by concluding that these feelings are not going to help you through the situation, that looking on the bright side is more effective, and, of course, channeling the feelings in an artistic manner.

anxiety download mac

This morning we received a message from Mac Anderson, founder of Simple Truths Inc., an organization in the business of encouragement and inspiration. AMC has been a subscriber to Mac’s service for some time and always everybody is interesting to see, read, and learn about the products and services he has to offer. Today’s situation was a little different…

We get a lot of messages via email from marketing gurus and organizations that try to sell stuff. Often, we don’t even open them or just briefly glance at them. Some things, on the ohter hand, we actually wait for, like Mac’s messages or the ones from Michael Angier and Christian Mickelsen.

Let’s start at the beginning: We have found, and we believe many of you might be able to relate, that we listen to certain things when we are actually in need. If things are going well and we are healthy, we don’t listen much to all the healthier eating and diet advertisements. When we feel good, we don’t pay much attention to the ads about new pills or pharmaceuticals. A similar thing applies when you are in business. When lots of projects and contracts are in the pipeline and you actually have a waiting list or can barely cover all the commitments you’ve made, you don’t pay much attention to all the messages about how to improve marketing, become more successful, and improve your situation.

When, on the other hand, money isn’t rolling in on a regular basis, prices keep increasing, and you begin to wonder how to make all the payments for the bills you know will come in at the end of the month, a certain level of desperation begins to set in. The movie “The Secret” provided a nice solution on a theoretical level for such circumstances. It basically said that there is a universal, natural law that governs what we receive.

It is called the “Law of Attraction”.

This law is supposedly followed by all the energies in the universe. When we think about all the things that could cause us to fail, from the little things like failing to find a parking spot in front of the store in the pouring rain, to the big things, like making enough revenue to pay the help and the bills, we will attract this negativity and the associated circumstances, and what we are afraid of will actually happen.

If, on the other hand, we think and believe in the good things in the world, keep our hopes up, channel our positive energy towards success even when things aren’t going perfectly, the universe and its’ Law of Attraction will bring those things closer to us that will actually allow us to reach our goals and succeed.

Many people have actually experienced this situation more than once, and its always amazing. anybody can admit that it isn’t always easy to keep a positive mind set and think the positive thoughts. Not too long ago we got into a situation where several projects all came to an end at the same time, and we began to wonder if we will have any new work any time soon.

Knowing that dwelling on the possibility of failure wouldn’t help, we began to activate our network, listen to what gurus in the field say and suggest, and worked very focused on developing new opportunities. Guess what – the universe listened and now we have a number of new projects in the pipeline that have us more excited than ever.

For anybody who has read previous articles for any length of time, you will know that we are always for letting others participate in achievements. In this case that means that our anxiety to run into trouble and its solution should be turned around into something positive. Mac Anderson couldn’t know that things had already turned into a very positive movement when he sent us his message this morning. We still watched what he had send us because one never knows when you need a solution in future desperate times.

More importantly, we weres able to forward Mac’s movie to a friend who’s daughter was scheduled for surgery in just a few days, and to some other people who are currently struggling. That made all of us feel good because we have hope it has helped them, and we believe it made them feel good, because they now know that others care about them and their lives.

Whether your are in a bad situation or in the best place in your life right now, we like to encourage you to use the link below and watch the movie Mac sent to us. If it applies, use it to motivate yourself to get back up and keep moving forward. If it doesn’t currently fit, download it or save the link, so you have it when you need it.

anxiety perfectionism
How can I overcome this horrible combination of social anxiety and perfectionism?

It’s a vicious cycle, please help me get out of it.

Well with social anxiety you often get thoughts of one or many of these: you feel like people are out to get you, you feel as if people are staring at you constantly, trying to judge you and you feel like you’re going to break down in tears because of it.

Perfectionism is impossible. I’m sure you know that because you want to overcome it. I would be happy with being perfectly un-perfect, because then you are perfect in your own ways.

You need to bring your self esteem up – do this by doing things you enjoy… rollerskating, skateboarding, reading, shopping, whatever makes you happy.

I wish you luck and you’ll get through it.

test anxiety techniques

Students often feel a great deal of pressure to perform. They want to excel personally. They want to make their parents proud. They might even be trying to impress friends. Whatever the case, if the pressure is turned up a notch, test anxiety might result.

Test anxiety is generally considered a very normal occurrence. Almost anyone who has ever taken tests can recall at least one instance where fear of failure led to incredible cram sessions, incessant rewriting of notes and even a complete “blanking” out on knowing the answers. In most cases test anxiety is very normal and fairly easy to overcome. In some instances, however, test anxiety is the manifestation of an actual anxiety disorder.

“Normal” test anxiety can present with symptoms such as sweaty palms, an overall sense of malaise and a fear of not performing well. In most cases, students can overcome the problems by taking a few measures before a test. Some techniques for overcoming normal test anxiety include:

– Talking out fears with friends or family
– Pacing study rather than cramming
– Taking practice exams
– Deep breathing prior to an exam
– Self-affirmations prior to a test
– Obtaining extra tutoring before a big exam, if problems are present with the material. A little extra boost of help can go a long way toward alleviating fears.

Unfortunately, for some students test anxiety does go beyond the norm. If the symptoms are also accompanied by extreme fear, heart palpitations, physical pain, insomnia and other such signs, a more serious anxiety disorder could be present. This is especially the case if symptoms appear in other circumstances or they repeatedly present prior to tests. In many cases, the relaxation techniques for normal test anxiety will not have a major impact on a person who is suffering from full-blown anxiety disorder.

If an actual anxiety disorder is suspected, it is smart for a person to seek medical advice. There are treatments available to help people overcome the symptoms and lead lives free of abnormal anxiety and panic. Should the anxiety disorder go beyond just test anxiety, it is typically imperative for a person to seek help. Anxiety disorders can completely waylay lives if they are left unchecked.

Test anxiety is a fairly normal occurrence. Almost everyone experiences it at some point in life. If the problem is particularly severe, persists or its symptoms begin to show up in other performance-based or social situations, help is worth seeking out. There is no reason for a person with test anxiety or any other form of anxiety that is severe to go it alone.

health anxiety cbt model

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

We develop as people as we experience different things and as we mature we become flexible enough to learn from our experiences and change our behaviour to better cope with life.  However, people who have a personality disorder find this difficult.  Their patterns of thinking, their feelings and behaviour remain fixed and so they will present with a much more limited range of emotions, attitudes and behaviours, thus finding it difficult to cope with everyday events.

As you would imagine, this can lead to distress and a fear that you do not experience life as others do.

BPD has been described as a pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and feelings, impulsivity that began possibly in early adulthood as indicated by five or more of the following:

  • Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment
  • A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterised by alternating between extremes of idealisation and devaluation.
  • Impulsivity in at least two areas that is potentially self-damaging. For example spending, sex, substance misuse, reckless driving, binge eating, self harming etc.
  • Identity disturbance, markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
  • Recurrent suicidal behaviour, gestures or threats/self harming behaviour
  • Emotional instability due to reactivity of mood. For example, irritability or anxiety which lasts only for a few hours.
  • Chronic feelings of emptiness
  • Inappropriate or intense anger or difficulty controlling anger.
  • Transient, stress related paranoid ideation or dissociative symptoms.
  • Many health professionals are sceptical about the effectiveness of treatment interventions for people with a diagnosis of personality disorder, and as such are often reluctant to accept people with this diagnosis.  However, a range of treatment interventions are available for personality disorder, including psychological treatments and drug therapy, and there is growing evidence available on the efficacy of varying treatment approaches. In general, a combination of psychological treatments reinforced by drug therapy at critical times is thought to be the most beneficial treatment available.
  • In order for treatment to be effective it has to:
  • Have structure
  • Be focused
  • Be understandable to both therapist and patient
  • Be long term treatment
  • The types of psychological treatments available are as follows:

Dynamic psychotherapy

  • Dynamic Psychotherapy is based on a developmental model of personality.  The aim is to understand how past events can still have influences on the present.  This therapy is usually long term and it is essential that a good relationship is formed between the therapist and the patient as this relationship is used as a way of understanding how the patient interacts with others.

Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT Therapy)

  • CAT Therapy assumes that a set of partially dissociated self states exist and account for the features of BPD.  It aims to put these states together to examine them in treatment as well as in life experiences.

Cognitive Therapy (CBT)

  • CBT is a structured and collaborative therapy that is goal directed and focuses more on identifying and examining underlying beliefs than an initial reduction in symptoms. It is likely that up to 30 treatments would be necessary for BPD with initial treatments identifying basic beliefs about themselves, others and the world around them.  CBT involves the patient carrying out homework and being willing to test beliefs which is often difficult.  If you would like to know more about CBT please email me at:  info@therapysite.org or order my CBT e-book from the site.

Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • DBT is an adaptation of CBT.  It has been used extensively in the treatment of BPD, especially for patients who self harm.  It includes analysis of behaviour, support and skills training.  If you would like to know more about DBT please email me at:  info@therapysite.org or order my DBT e-book from the site.

Therapeutic Community Treatments

  • Therapeutic community treatments provide intense therapeutic treatments to the patient.  However it is the environment itself that is seen as the driving force for change

Drugs that can be used in the treatment of BPD are as follows:

Antipsychotic Drugs

  • In trials antipsychotic drugs have had variable results.  They are thought to reduce hostility and impulsivity.

Antidepressant Drugs

  • Tricyclic and SSRI’s have both been recommended in the treatment of BPD.  They are especially thought to help such symptoms of impulsivity.

Mood stabilisers

  • Lithium, Carbamazepine and Sodium Valporate have been useful to treat lability of mood in those with BPD.
