Well this is a report on what was a most successful first meet up group, Freedom from shyness and social anxiety workshop. This was only the first meet up of this kind and aims to take socially anxious and shy people of Scotland from where they are now to be beautiful social butterflies within no time at all. The Glasgow freedom from shyness and social anxiety workshop is open to all people of all ages and all social ability. We aim to do this by talking about the issues that arise for people suffering from social anxiety, at the meetings there are two leading experts in the field of over coming social anxiety and other issues of the mind. Andrew Milne is founder of Happy-Minds a unique training system that gets people over social anxiety, stress and depression. You can read more about Andrew and his happy minds at : www.Happy-minds.co.uk, where he also offers one to one sessions on overcoming social anxiety.
The meet up group was the brain child of Vikki (the organizer) Andrew and Mark, who wanted to bring these techniques to a wider audience at a pricing level that is affordable to all people. This is an opportunity for shy and socially anxious people to overcome there problems and issues, learn amazing techniques that they can do simply in there mind and achieve all the social skills that they could ever dream of. The team at the meet up want other socially anxious people to benefit and feel brighter and learn to sizzle in company. Everyone involved feels passionate about the work they are doing.
The meetup group was well attended for a first group, and everyone who attended, seemed to enjoy the group and get more than they expected from it. Speaking to people afterward they really seemed to feel good about the decision they made to come along. The meetup group was held in O’neils in the private room at the back, which turned out to be a lovely warm and welcoming room. Tea and coffee was served to all that attended.
Mark started the group by introducing both himself and Andrew, and they discussed and showed understanding of social anxiety and the problems people suffering with social anxiety have. He explained that to facilitate the changes in people he would be using some language skills, some demonstrations, and some simple exercises to enable people to learn.
Andrew then went on to ask what situations caused the most stress and anxiety, various suggestions came up, some people felt one on one was fine, while group situations were worst.
It was suggested that this group which was friendly relaxed was easy to speak in. Andrew from happy minds (www.happy-minds.co.uk) demonstrated a technique that would rid them of there anxiety in social situations, easily and effortlessly. Despite a few skeptical looks, this was an amazing moment as that horrible knot of anxiety in the pit of there stomach was taken away easily. The difference on peoples faces was amazing and everyone agreed it was a most remarkable achievement. Anxiety generally builds up in the pit of the stomach or the chest area and feels like a heavy weight, or a gnawing type feeling. This was a wonderful demonstration how anxiety can be removed, sometimes in socially anxious people or shy people it is this horrible feeling that stops them from being able to really enjoy company.
Anxiety is complex and need to be tackled in several ways at happy minds we have developed many techniques to clear of anxiety forever, this is the first exercise in several people will learn. Dealing with social anxiety is easy when you have two leading experts and a willing mind.
After this demonstration Mark went on to talk about various social situations, this was to enable people to realize they have choices as to how they react in company. Then both Mark and Andrew talked about body language and the importance of posture in overcoming social anxiety and shyness. the group completed an exercise in which they learn the importance of rapport and paying attention, and how to demonstrate listening skills.
The group was closed with a demonstration on how to change your mood and, there was some questions and answering. everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the group and i believe everyone left there feeling really good about the group and what it has started to achieve.
So if you have social anxiety or suffer from shyness come along to the next meetup event. Begin your journey to enjoying every and all social situations. You can learn to feel good, be happy and learn to sizzle and zing with excitement.
