anxiety prescription drugs
Can you get Valium, Prozac or any other anti anxiety drugs without a prescription?

probably, but that wouldn’t be wise if you were getting them to take for yourself…. if it’s for you, then how would you know exactly what you needed and how much? if it’s for other uses… well… – just be careful who you ask and how you get if you are gonna go that route…

anxiety beta blockers
do beta blockers work for anxiety?

hi, i have the propranolol beta blockers, and wondered if anyone had any experience with them? i suffer from high anxiety in driving tests/exams so have been perscribed some to calm me down. thanks!

They reduce the instance of palpitations yes, however beta-blockers are not without risk. If stress and anxiety is a long term problem for you then I would recommend CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

Beta blockers basically inhibit the effect adrenaline has on the heart (which is the body’s own natural stimulant) It basically quiets the heart down. They won’t actually stop you from feeling anxious.

Anxiety attack is no longer a new term in our life. In fact, it is affecting a staggering 20 million of the American population including school-age children. Traditional medication has always been one of the most effective ways to treat anxiety, but they are also being accused of potential harm to our bodies. As such, more people would like to learn how to stop anxiety attacks naturally, and the non-drug methods are what they start with.

1. BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

Behavioral therapy is applied to change the behavior pattern and thinking process of the sufferer, in order to ease both physical and emotional symptoms of anxiety attacks. With this method, sufferers are trained to cope with their stress, relax their minds, and shift their focus to more positive events. All of these skills will enable the patients to reduce their anxiety symptoms. In the mean time, the behavior therapist also help the patients to identify the causes of their problems and prevent them from happening again. These methods are essentially different from the direct interventions in treatment by medications or hypnosis.

2. HERBAL PRODUCTS

In essences, herbals are another form of drug, but are considered natural because they are less addictive and harmful compared to traditional medications. Kava Kava is a commonly used herbal drug which can help alleviate anxiety symptoms and can be consumed daily. Valerian Root is another type of herb that has been found to be useful for anxiety, and it works as both an anti-sedative and an anti-anxiety agent. Other herbs that are known to be able to alleviate anxiety symptoms include chamomile, B-complex vitamins, and St. John’s Wort, a potent natural anti-depressant.

3. MEDITATION

Meditation helps the practitioners to put minds at ease. When you do it for a long time, you can have easy control of your mind and dispel excessive worries, fear, and anger. Yoga is one of the commonly known techniques.

4. DIETARY HABITS

With regard to alleviating anxiety, caffeine and sugar are two types of consumptions you should definitely avoid. Quite often, healthy diet coupled with regular exercise is a magic pill for various kinds of medical conditions.

5. EXERCISE

When you do exercises, your body releases a stream of neuro-transmitters that can successfully keep anxiety at bay. Why not start with less-intensive programs and gradually build up? With proper exercise, you can well protect yourself against anxiety attacks or reduce the symptoms if you are already suffering it.

All natural anxiety cures as mentioned above involve restoring the biochemical balance of the body and making dietary and lifestyle changes designed to improve your general health. Now, more and more anxiety sufferers prefer a way to stop anxiety attacks naturally as none of the traditional medicines is totally free from side effects. Mind you, though, the non-drug methods are mild remedies and are only suitable for treating minor anxiety symptoms. In the case of more severe anxiety attacks, traditional medications are still the first choices.

anxiety hallucinations

Possibly the most misunderstood part of stress management is your role in it.

Those who respond to life with negativity or anxiety as most likely to deal with the physical affects of anger, guilt, nervousness, frustration and fear.

These emotions can cause hypertension and high blood pressure, which can lead to heart attack or stroke. Other complications include ulcers, arthritis, asthma, high cholesterol and kidney disease.

People who tend to focus on themselves as the controller of their fate – in fact ’self-motivated’ – are more likely to feel a sense of control when stressors affect them. Instead of blaming something or someone else they have the motivation to deal with a problem and look for a reasonable solution.

This may have to do with how you organize the images in your brain. Basically your brain records all your senses all the time. Since your vision is important imagery is a very important part of how your brain thinks.

So the brain thinks in images. Our memories are collections of images. The interesting thing is, we actually have the power to control or change those images. By changing our images we can change/control our states.

Think of a time when you felt some stress. Make this memory as vivid as you can. If you can imagine a time when you were stressed and feel those feelings now. You are ‘hallucinating’ as that situation exists in the past, not now. You have to recreate or ‘hallucinate’ the conditions to feel stressed.

Hallucination is normal. We do it all the time. When you think of that situation with an ex that happened 5 years ago and get angry or recall or memory that makes you all mushy. You are vividly recreating an event that has ceased to exist. In other words you are hallucinating in a controlled manner.

Ask yourself, “How can I use this knowledge about hallucination for stress management?

Think of a time when you felt challenged but confident that you will succeed. Pick even a small event and hallucinate in vividly. Feel the feelings you felt then, now.

Here’s the fun part. Go back to the time you felt stressed and notice what details your mind is focused on. Particularly what you saw, heard, felt etc. in detail. Do the same for the time you felt good and notice how these hallucinations are different from each other.

Maybe in the stress hallucination you feel pressure around you(with the world closing in) while when feeling confident you don’t. Maybe you say negative thoughts to yourself while in stress and when not, you think of nice things.

Pay careful attention to these next words.

If you take the components of the stressful hallucination (size, feelings sounds etc.) and switch it with the more positive one you will feel better automatically.

This has to do with how your brain organizes your thoughts. Happy thoughts are kept in one area and sad thoughts in another. If you use the happy thoughts way of perceiving things, then that’s how you will feel.

It can take you up to 5 minutes to get the feel for the process. Once you know how to change your stressful hallucinations to positive ones you can do it anytime anywhere.

The ability to choose our thoughts, to think what we want, is what gives us the power to determine our attitude and perspective when approaching a problem.

If we allow stress, anger and frustration to consume us, it can be like a runaway train gathering steam and threatening to derail. All you got to do is stop fueling the fire and the train will slow down.

SSDI for anxiety, depression: cannot leave the house so what to do?

I have severe anxiety and cannot even leave the house to see a doctor. What do people like me do if I have little medical history for applying for SSDI?

You will have to go to the doctor and be diagnosed and get written paperwork from him to take the the SSI office. You also have to go to the SSI office of course.

Sounds to me like you have a fear of public, medically referred to as “Agoraphobia” this is often caused by anxiety, or accompanies it.

I have had GAD – general anxiety disorder, for about 20 years. I also have PTSD. I can tell you from experience that you need to get out of the house or you will only get worse. As someone posted above, you cannot die from an anxiety attack. Are you on any medications for this? If not I highly recommend getting some. It may take a while for you to find the right med for you as everyone is different, but it WILL change your life when you find it. I work full time and volunteer whwnever possible at my daughters school. My GAD had not completely gone away, but it has became much, much more manageable. For me, Xanax has helped more than anything else ever has.

I know several great websites and even a wonderful chat room where there are nothing except people with anxiety and related disorders. This has helped me alot. Just being able to talk to others who are going through the same thing you are can ease your mind alot. If you wouls like this information I would be glad to share it with you. Just email me through here. I will also be glad to chat with you and share my personal experiences and ways of coping with you.

The key to living with this order is learning how to manage it. You have to keep it under control and not let it control you!

I wish you the best of luck!

Pls help…re SSRI and Social Anxiety?

Pls help…I used Prozac 20mg for six months for my depression and social anxiety and stopped it abruptly, then after 3 weeks, I had a relapse, I’m experiencing same symptoms as with my 1st episode. I start taking again the pills and I’m on it’s 3rd week, however no improvement yet. Pls help. Thanks!

Don’t give up yet it can take up to six weeks to get into your system and start to be effective. I feel your pain though because I am also on it and have been having a lot of success on it. Give it some time and you will feel better. If not after six weeks then see your doctor for something else. Good Luck

Anxiety & Effexor??

I was given effexor to help with my anxiety problems and just wanted to know any good things or bad things people have experianced while on this medication. Thanks in advance!!

well it is one of the good drugs indeed, I would say you can look at side effects or drug prfile no drugstore.com, otherwise typically they are used in escalating doses to see relief, so if you don’t see results in a few weeks, do not get disheartened, and keep on increasing the dose as recommended by your doctor, good luck

Anti Anxiety Meds: Are meds the answer to your anxiety?

Anti anxiety meds are often prescribed by psychiatrists and family practitioners for the purpose of a quick short-term solution for anxiety and panic disorder.

The problem with western culture though, is that many of the drug companies are financially supporting doctors and insurance companies. The doctors know that if they keep prescribing drugs to their patients, then they will get more funding from the drug companies. The highly immoral activity has unfortunately gone on for decades and will continue to go on as long as these drugs provide the quick fix that patients desire so badly.

The most common type of anti anxiety meds are benzodiazepines , anxiolytic-type, selective serotonin re-uptakeee inhibitors (or SSRI’s for short), beta-blockers, serotoninor-epinephrinenre-uptakeakeake inhibitors (or SNRI’s), tricyclicsmono-aminemineine oxidase inhibitors (or MOI’s). The most prescribed are SSRI’s and benzodiazepines.

SSRI’s are meant to be taken for long-term use. They are to be taken regularly every day. They have nasty side-effects, many are sexual in nature. Benzodiazepines are to be taken only when the symptoms of panic and anxiety start to flare up. Their side-effects include a feeling of dizziness and mental confusion…ironically dizziness and confusion are also symptoms of anxiety.

What doctors oftentimes neglect to tell their patients, is that natural cures are always available. The ultimate cure for panic and anxiety is to change the way we think about our condition. The sufferer of panic and anxiety didn’t arrive at their condition by way of drugs, so why would drugs cure it? The sufferer actually arrived at their condition because of negative self-talk that they’ve run in their minds over and over again. They have suffered all the other side effects of anxiety: hypochondria, agoraphobia, commitment phobia, etc… The cure is to find a way to talk themselves out of this negative self-talk.

anxiety sleep medication
My doctor gave me some sleeping medication and some anxiety medication, but I have to take them 8 hours apart?

I can’t take them at the same time, because they “go in the same path.” So if I have to take the anxiety medication at 4pm, I have to wait until midnight to take the sleeping medication? I’m only taking the sleeping medication for a week to get on track, so I won’t have to worry about this after this week is over.

You were prescribed the anxiolytic ( possibly Xanax?) for daytime use. It also has the side effect of causing drowsiness. You were prescribed a hypnotic med for sleeping. If you take them too closely together it could cause you to become too sleepy and might even interfere with your respiratory reflex. These two drugs would have a synergistic effect when combined, making them more potent than they would normally be.
