Help with a psychology question re: anxiety/depression?

Discuss and evaluate 3 therapeutic techniques for the treatment of depression/anxiety.

Ok am getting myself all in a muddle – how would you approach the above question. I think I’m confusing myself with therapeutic techniques and the different perspectives on mental disorders. I was thinking of starting off like this:

Discuss what anxiety/mood disorders are and what are the symptoms…Discuss the current popular generalised, eclectic approach to the treatment of mental disorders, combining aspects of different approaches. Refer to Acierno et al (1993) about a combination of therapies benefitting panic disorder sufferers.

Then I get stuck! I’m not sure what is expected…do I now discuss 3 types of therapy? If so any suggestions? Should I be discussing any of the actual mental illnesses?

To clarify I have a two hour exam next week – 50 MCQ’s and two essay questions – of which this is one which I am preparing for, so I’d guess I have 1/2 hr for this question!

Having done Year 12 Psychology last year, my advice would be to give a brief description of anxiety/depression and then say something like “there are a number of different techniques used to treat these conditions, such as…”
Then describe the first and evaluate it, describe the second and evaluate it, and describe the third and evaluate it.
Discuss is fairly similar to describe in exam situations.

Make sure you are direct in answering the question being asked – this is especially important when you are in an exam and have a limited amount of time!

Does anyone know the methods of adjustment with panic attacks / anxiety?

I am now 16 years old who suffer from anxiety notice severe or panic disorder since I was 13. I tried everything, from 8 different drugs to acupuncture biofeedback. I see a theripist twice a week and I'm taking Cymbalta. Me changed schools and my current grades, relationships, and my life was greatly affected quilaty. I really want my life back, if anyone has suggestions or anything I really appreciate it a lot. Thank you.

What are the symptoms of AD and anxiety attacks?

I am a cutter, a hypochondriac, and more depressed but also liklely I have to get up and anxiety (or panic) attacks … What are the symptoms of these conditions?

ADD is attention deficit disorder deficient and anxiety attacks are terrible because I have, I've had for about 9 years and is not fun, it feels like something heavy sitting on your chest and can not breathe and you just starting to shoot, and that makes you think that your death but after I got help and I learned that its not going to live again so bad, I mean it just yet but not bad, I think you should see my heart is with you and someone who will always be in my prayers, please take care of you and if you need to talk someone just sent me an e-mail to christinamishue@hotmail.com

any advice ??????

My Finace and I have been together for 8 years. I feel that I know nothing more than himself. All my life I feel as there is life after him, I could not even life in pictures with him. The last two years we have been up and down and I feel worse as he treats me like sh **, but I can not leave. I feel used as scape goat I have real bad anxiety and actions are worse, but UAS as the cause and the remedy that I have be with him to be fine, but being with him is miserable and I have panic attacks and plays that sound like he knows I usually leave, he does what he wants and always to strings over my heart. I feel so stupid, but I want to go now, but I do not know how I feel mad if hes not with me, I look for in a med to calm and help me cope with my panic attacks and help me realize that there is life after a bad breakup ………. I help what to do.

T we still have physical symptoms of anxiety, but drugs?

I started Lexapro a week ago for depression and also began clonazepam .5 mg at night for anxiety symptoms. The thing is that I am never nervous or anxious, I'm sick of feeling sick, I feel nausea, imbalance, dizziness and poor, Even worse sometimes for no reason at all. the doctor can not find anything physically wrong and have been attributed to anxiety. Clonazepam has helped a little, but still I feel nausea and diarrhea and makes me literally sleep for 18 hours a day. MAT-I had no proof so as gastroscopy or endoscopy, only in the blood, urine and feces. Do you have physical symptoms like anyone even so, even when the drugs? What should I do, I can not stand this. i havent been able to go to work and I care a baby. any advice is much appreciated.

If. I had these problems when I started. Clonazepam knock you out. When I was necessary for me at least 20 hours. Why your doctor has prescribed for you at night. You may be able to take your clonazepem soon as you would normally help a little. As someone said before me, it is best to get out and walk or find some way of doing it yourself is up. Nothing to bring your energy back. And to help your nausea, you may want to try some chamomile or something to help. Hot tea works well too. Hope I helped. :)

What can I do to stop panic attacks?

I work at a call center and I answer the phone and deal with customers. I have started to have lots of panic attacks lately. I have visited with a doctor and was prescribed some medication. What can I do to stop a panic attack from occurring, also what can I do during a panic attack to stop it?

Watch The Sopranos. Tony has attacks too, he takes Prozac and has a shrink. I’m not sure how he gets rid of them, but slowly they disappear. (No this might not stop your attacks directly but The Sopranos is definitely a stress reliever, you can imagine you’re Tony and doing all kinds of messed up stuff and getting away with it!)
